SEARCHING TIPS
Be specific
If you type just Windows – this is a huge subject…
You will generate 100’s of sites that won’t be relavant
(1970,000 results in UK only!)
If you type Windows 2000 bugs
You’ll get some better results – but still get sites
about double glazing, the Millennium and insects! . (727,000 sites on Yahoo - UK
only)
The answer?
Use the +, - and “.
Use the + symbol for elements you want. If you type +Windows +2000 +bugs
You get sites which contain all three elements – but not necessarily together.(10,400 results UK only))
Use the – symbol to eliminate element you don’t want.
If you type +Windows +2000 +bugs –98 –95 –XP
You will get sites about Windows 2000 only and not Windows 95, 98 or XP
Use the “inverted commas” to specify phrases to want.
If you type +“Windows 2000” +bugs
You should get good results (3,300 results – UK only)
With a subject as huge as this – you may need to add more specifics..
If you type "Windows 2000" +bugs +computer +fix
The number of results drop to 767.
And if you type "Windows 2000 bugs" +computer +fix –books
This brings in just 1 result on Yahoo, UK only
Although there are other methods - boolean etc. - you
should find that using the elements above will greatly
improve your search results in
nearly all Search Engines.
